How can I get information about Concrete Moose?
There is a facebook profile set up for the Concrete Moose in Thunder Bay. So, if you have a facebook profile and want to become our friend you’ll automatically be informed when we post news.
Where can I get a Concrete Moose?
They show up in the parks of Thunder Bay during the longest days of the year. But, they are meant to be shared and given as gifts. So, if you know someone with a Concrete Moose, see if they will share theirs with you. Check the Locations & Trade page to learn how to find moose throughout the year.
What if I decide to to take more than one Concrete Moose or keep it for more than a year?
There really is no way for us to police the care of Moose. So, we leave it up to the honesty and good will of those who pick them up. We do know that some people are rule breakers, so we hope one of their friends will keep them in line. We also hear that mistreated Moose will cause extra dandelions to grow in your lawn. There is also a rumour that the Sleeping Giant will wake up and stop on those who take more than one Moose. But, we think that’s just a rumour- we think.
Who pays for the Moose?
All that goes into the Concrete Moose experience is privately funded by the a loose group of friends called “The Society of the Concrete Moose”. We all have our own roles. Some make the Moose, some distribute and others work the website. If you share the values found in “the Idea” they maybe you should join us.
Can I get one for a friend who’s new to town?
Yes. If you’re doing a welcome wagon type of thing, that’s very cool with us. Send us an email and we’ll try to get you a Moose for the new person.
Can I get one for someone who is out of town?
If you are taking one to a former resident somewhere outside of Thunder Bay, drop us a line. We’ll see if we can find one for you. There are Moose all over the place- Australia, USA, eastern and western Canada. All we ask is that you have the person send us a photo of their Moose near a famous landmark or city/population sign.
How can I send photos for the site?
Send them to info@concretemoose.ca When we have time we’ll post them.
I would like one for an out of town person living in Sundridge ON and will be turning 80yrs on June 28th. Can I purchase one? I will take a picture of it and send it in.
Thanks
Joanne: Thanks for the note. According to the Code we can’t really sell you one and the couple hundred we made this year have all been scooped up. I know the CBC has a couple, so you may want to call them. You can also try posting a request on kijiji. It’s a free classified system that a lot of people use in Thunder Bay. Maybe someone will be willing to make a trade. -SCM
Hey Joanne, I scooped one this morning for my friends from Thunder Bay now living in Ajax. I can give it to you for your friend who can keep it for one year, then pass it on to my friends…how does that sound? See you at work..unless you are not the Joanne I think you are!

I’ve been trying to find a moose for a year now and each time we have no luck in getting there on time – today a lot of people were taking 4 or 5 each so they didn’t last long ( a friend of mine was at Waverly). Just wondering if there is any other way to get one – was going to give it as a gift to someone leaving Thunder Bay to move to Southern Ontario – thought it would be great reminder of her time in Thunder Bay.
My husband and I are still on the hunt for one for ourselves as well- there is already a sopt in our garden waiting just for it! (my kids are dying to see one)
We’ve had a huge call for Moose this year. Like I said in the previous post, you may have to do a little asking around. I know some people took more than one, but from what I hear they were “hunting for their friends”. I wish we could police how many people leave with, but it’s just not possible.
Thank You. What a fun idea. Would it be possible to aquire a moose which I would give to my son who is currently in Ottawa. My son went to school at the University of Ottawa and is currently working as a loyal civil servant for the Federal government . He is a northern at heart and misses seeing these magestic creatures on the trips to the cottage. I’m sure that there are several landmarks in the Capital where our horned friend would love to be photographed. Since our son is a photo buff the photographs of the moose would be no problem.
Sincerely Gary Metz
Hey Gary: Thanks for the note. We’ve had a few messages like this today. I’ve suggested that people use kijiji to hunt down last year’s batch and see if there is anyone who would be willing to part with them. All told, there should be close to 500 floating out there.
I’ll be talking to the other members of the SCM and we’ll discuss whether we can scrape together the resources to build an emergency maggle. If we do this we will only post the release information and location on the website. But, I don’t want to get your hopes up cause we’re all kinda spent just getting this group out. There’s always next June.
I was on my way to work this morning (June 22, 2010) through Vickers Park and I was greeted by about 100 moose. They brought an instant smile to my face at 7am. “Marvin” proudly sits on the window sill in my kitchen and he was a conversation piece while it was on my desk at work. I recently moved back to Thunder Bay 3 weeks ago and it was nice to know that there are generous people still living here. Thank you
I was born and raised in TBay, having moved to Calgary 16 years ago. Would LOVE a moose to bring home with us in July…I will check back to the website for further notification – kudos to you all, what a wonderful idea!!
So I was unaware of the Concrete Moose phenomenon until I returned from a trip to TO and found that one had decided to pasture in my front porch. Having been in town for the last four years this was certainly a new and unusual experience for me and I will see what I can do to make sure the little fella’s stay with me, while temporary, is remarkable.
Cheers to the individual(s) who facilitated his migration to my place.
I am a proud ex-pat of Thunder Bay now living in Whistler since ’94. I was gifted a concrete moose on my last trip home and have it proudly displayed in my home much to the envy of my other Thunder Bay friends out here…..one of them will just have to wait for a year for their turn…..it is soooo much cooler than the leftover inukshucks from the games last winter!

i have a problem – i broke the antlers – how can i fix them ???? i want to send it to ferney bc but want to fix it first……. tks andy
Andy:
If you have some clamps at home, I’ve used gorilla glue and it works just fine. You really do need to clamp the two parts because the glue “puffs up” like insulating foam and it will push the two pieces apart and create a weak bond. But, with the clamp it is fantastic. If that fails, post another note to the website and I’ll see if I can get you a new head piece. Fernie BC, nice.
