300 Moose Are Ready to Go!

In the next day or two 300 Concrete Moose will be making their way to smaller parks throughout Thunder Bay. (This photo has about 220)  These first few Maggles include, brown, yellow, black, white, grey and orange Moose.  There are also quite a few “Mix’n'Match” Moose this year.  Again, each Concrete Moose will come with a tag that contains this web address and the Code of the Concrete Moose.  For those of you who have been fortunate enough to have a Moose over the past year, now is the time to start thinking about who you will be passing it on to.  As the “Idea” says, if you consider yourself a “local” then pick someone who is new to the City.  If you are new then pick someone who has been here for quite a while.  The whole point is to get to know the people we share this beautiful City with….let’s go Moose hunting and make some new friends.

Had my calendar marked, was up at 6 am and out hunting for a ‘moose, determined after 3 years of searching that this would be a year to at least have a ‘sighting’. Sigh. So far no luck. People must get up pretty darn early to bag their moose. Congrats to those who found them.

Don’t give up…none were set out last night so you may want to try again tomorrow AM. Also, if you give us an idea of the area of the City that you live in (Northwood, Current River, Westfort…) and maybe a landmark, (near a firehall…) perhaps we can put one a little more directly in your path.

        Hi,
I love this campaign! I think it’s a brilliant idea and my friends from other cities and countries agreed with me on that. I don’t want to miss it this year :) We had our moose before and gave him to the young lady who had just moved to Thunder Bay. She was actually searching for one. This year I am afraid we will not be able to get one as my husband is away this week and I do not drive. If there is anyway to put them somewhere closer to my area so I could walk there with my little girl – That would be fantastic :)
I live in Mariday Park area, my house is almost facing St. Joseph Heritage on Red River Road. Would it be possible to drop a couple of them at St. Joseph? :) A couple because one would be gone before we get there. Thank you

A few in the park in the middle of Dalhousie Drive would be nice. :) There’s a playground in the middle of the park, with a slide, swings, and a rocking horse.

Fantastic!! Can we keep this just between us? lol. Currrent River’s Dick Waddington memorial Park or Evergreen Park by the public washrooms …..

We were up early to hunt for moose too, but came back empty-handed. It was a lovely morning to go for a ride though, so it wasn’t a total disappointment. Perhaps the moose will find their way to Carrick Park?

  3. Nancy says:

I also was out bright and early this morning looking for the moose. I started early checking out Boulevard Lake, Centennial Park, Northwood and not a moose to be sighted. I would love to see a few at Wild Goose Park on Lakeshore Drive.

May I humbly suggest in the centre diamond at Balsam Pit?

I too was up early, only my second year trying though.
I’m in the Vickers area and will try again tomorrow for sure.

      Anix:

There probably won’t be any in Vickers this year, check the Intn’l Friendship Gardens or the park on Franklin…. The Maggles have moved to new locations and they will be showing up tonight.

Was at Waverly park this morning befor work, but the moose must have vamoosed. Sent my husband at 10 and just again at 1:30. Maybe I can convince him to camp out there for the night.

    Carol:

There probably won’t be any Moose at Waverly this year. Check the smaller parks in the area. Hillcrest, Carrick…..it seems that the Maggles have changed things up this year.

Gresley Parkette or Dick Waddington Park would be great places or the place called the Casino Grounds across from the RC Car racetrack, or the little park on Fitzgerald behind Cordonies…just sayin…

  9. Dave says:

Wondering how early is early! Anyone think the maggles will be gone by 7:00?

Did a quick tour tonight, as there are rumours that some moose have been spotted. Didn’t see any around Boulevard or at Hillcrest. Did see a young deer at boulevard though! :-) Good Luck with the hunt everyone!

Just got back from My hunt I found my 1st moose ever at my 1st planned stop!
I saw only one other hunter out this early today.
I guess yesterday was just a worthwhile dry run
What a great giving Idea -thanx

Had a great time moose hunting this morning! Took home my first one and shot (photos) of many others around town. Even took one to Jeff Walters at CBC radio (who was lamenting that he couldn’t get out hunting again this year.) He and Lisa talked to me and my moose hunting comrade, Brian J.

    Thanks for the fun morning!
