Just About Ready to Go

Very early in the morning on June 22, 2009 over 120 Concrete Moose were placed in Waverly Park.  We were shocked to find out that by 10:00 AM they were all gone! Believe me, we heard about it. A few people were convinced that we didn’t put any out at all.  So, this year we’ve decided to take a photo of the Concrete Moose before they go out.  Here’s a photo of 205.  They’ll be magically appearing in Waverly and Vickers Parks in the next few days.

Remember to read the Code and the Idea before you go and pick up your Moose. (They aren’t just cool garden decorations.) And, if you know of someone who is new to town, invite them along.  Happy hunting.

I was probably the first person to take one from vickers park this morning around 1am, even one accompanied me in the porta potty.

Evan: That is super funny stuff. We had five of us putting the moose out this year and one of the younger female society members “Brigz” put one in the porta potty. That’s great that you found him so early. Thanks for checking in. -SCM

I wonder how many moose were at Vickers. I got mine about 8:30, right after I heard about them on the radio. Mine didn’t get to the porta potta, but I should have been more careful with it . . . it broke on the ride home (the top of his hip bone broke off . . . any suggestions as to how to mend it?). But what fun . . . several folks were running around looking for them and there were still a few left . . . but very, very few. When I saw ‘mine’ just standing there waiting for me, I felt like I found the nickel in the birthday cake :) THANK YOU ! He shall be celebrated , then grudgingly passed along :)

Sue: The nickel in the cake line is fan-freaking-tastic. My mom used to do that and I had completely forgotten. Yes, that’s exactly what it’s like when you find a moose. It’s also a very good feeling when you give it away. So, you can look forward to that. As far as fixing the hip…I use Gorilla Glue. I just picked some up at CT and it works fine. You will have to clamp the piece until it dries, but it will be as good as new once it’s done. You can also stand it up and rest something heavy on it as it dries if you don’t have a clamp. Thanks for the smile. My kids are soooo getting coins in their cake next year! -SCM

I heard about the moose via a co-worker who heard about the moose on CBC radio this morning on her way to work. She found a moose in Vickers Park (one of very few left, BTW). She brought it with her inside and had it in her office. When she told me about it and I went to take a look, I was determined to find my own moose!!!!! I immediately jumped into my friends car and off we went to find us each a moose! I had received a tip from this website that “stragglers” were being sited at Con College, TBay Art Gallery and Lakehead University… so, of course, we quickly drove around the college and right in front of the Art Gallery there were 2 moose waiting patiently for us to take home and nerture for the next year!! I think this an amazing idea and koodos to the ppl or person behind all of this… What a job! WOW!!! I will take good care of this little guy this year and you can bet I’ll be passing him on to the next lucky recipient :) THANK YOU for brighting my day!!!!

This is a brilliant comment. If you check the other comments there’s one from the staff at the AG. They tell the story from their perspective….crazy people pulling up in a car and gathering up two moose. I absolutely love that you went hunting for it and were so decisive. I hope this character trait serves you well in life! -SCM

I can’t get over your passion for this project! It’s truly contagious. Everytime I look at my injured moose or pass him by, or see an antler peeking around the corner . . . I just smile and feel all warm and fuzzy. I’m heading down to Barrie tomorrow to visit my family . . . adult kids and grandkids. I hope you don’t mind, but I’m taking my moose on a road trip . . . along the Most Superior of all lakes to visit the rest of his new temporary family. He shall be my only passenger and will be treated with very special TLC. We shall return in about 10 days. Who knows . . . this could be a life-altering experience for both of us! Will keep you posted . . . if you are interested. Hope you don’t mind if he comes back with a name . . . I know there will be several suggestions :)

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm . . . sorry I’m such a techno klutz!!!!, but how do I post photos????? I’m really familiar with putting them on my computer and sending them via e-mail and Facebook, but I don’t see how to do that here . . .

About two months ago, I received one of these moose from a friend who got one last year when she was doing some photography in Waverly Park in the wee hours of that morning. She was moving to Sault Ste Marie in early July 2010 anyhow, and so we brought him from the city out to the country (Lappe). She told me that she wasn’t allowed to keep it longer than a year and that we had to dress it up to make it “ours” while we had it. My kids LOVED it-and the idea of it!!! When I went to the website on the tag that was attached to it, I got an error message…repeatedly, so I gave up…

was there something wrong with the http://www.concretemoose.ca back then?

I just saw the link on the YPN tweet :) and it took me to here (gladly)
